Katie's friends tell Rachel the tale of the cursed videotape myth and Katie's best friend Becca was taken to a hospital for witnessing Katie die. Katie's boyfriend, along with two of her closest friendsall perished in mysterious accidents that happened in the same evening at 10:30 pm. Rachel travels from Shelter Mountain Inn to Cabin 12 where Katie and her friends watched the videotape that was cursed. Rachel discovers the tape after which the phone is ringing. Rachel hears a voice utter "seven days". Rachel seeks advice from her ex-boyfriend Noah Clay, a video analyst. Then, Rachel discovers that Aidan, her son with Noah was watching the tape as Noah calls her and tells her that he believes her. Rachel investigates the lighthouse on the tape, and discovers it was on Moesko Island, the home of a tragic horse breeder named Anna Morgan, who appeared on the cursed videotape. Rachel uncovers that Anna was the mother of an adoptive daughter named Samara. Samara was able to create disturbing images in the minds humans, animals and even objects. Rachel is forced to flee Anna's widower Richard when she begins asking questions regarding Samara.
